भारत की भूमि पर सदियों से गुरु-शिष्य परंपरा का गहरा महत्व रहा है। इस परंपरा में एक ऐसा दिन है जो नवजीवन और आध्यात्मिक जागरण का प्रतीक माना जाता है—श्रावणी पूर्णिमा, जिसे रक्षाबंधन के रूप में भी मनाया जाता है। यह दिन केवल भाई-बहन के प्रेम का ही नहीं, बल्कि गुरु और शिष्य के बीच के अटूट बंधन का भी साक्षी है। इस दिन शिष्य अपने गुरु के समक्ष अपना सर्वस्व समर्पित करता है, और गुरु शिष्य के जीवन की भौतिक, मानसिक और आध्यात्मिक उन्नति का भार अपने कंधों पर ले लेते हैं। यह समर्पण मात्र शब्दों का नहीं, बल्कि एक चेतना का दूसरे चेतना में विलय है।
शिष्य का समर्पण एक बीज बोने जैसा है, और गुरु उस बीज को ज्ञान और प्रेम के जल से सींचकर एक विशाल वटवृक्ष बनाते हैं। जब शिष्य पूरी तरह से समर्पित हो जाता है, तब उसका 'मैं' भाव समाप्त हो जाता है और वह गुरु के मार्गदर्शन में एक नए जीवन की शुरुआत करता है। यह नया जीवन भय, अहंकार और अज्ञान से मुक्त होता है। गुरु अपने शिष्य के भीतर की अनंत संभावनाओं को पहचानते हैं और उसे उस दिशा में अग्रसर करते हैं, जहाँ वह अपनी पूर्णता को प्राप्त कर सके।
इस पवित्र परंपरा का एक अद्भुत उदाहरण 1939 की श्रावणी पूर्णिमा के दिन मिलता है। उस समय, कालीचरण बंदोपाध्याय नामक एक कुख्यात डाकू अपनी आपराधिक गतिविधियों से लोगों में खौफ फैला रहा था। एक रात, वह एक साधारण से दिखने वाले संभ्रांत युवक को लूटने की नीयत से कलकत्ता के काशी मित्रा घाट पर आया। वह युवक कोई और नहीं, श्री श्री आनन्दमूर्ति जी थे। डाकू कालीचरण ने उन्हें लूटने का प्रयास किया, लेकिन जैसे ही वह श्री श्री आनन्दमूर्ति जी के सामने आया, उनके मुखमंडल से निकल रही दिव्य ऊर्जा और शांत व्यक्तित्व के समक्ष वह नतमस्तक हो गया। उसके मन में वर्षों से जमी क्रूरता की परतें क्षण भर में पिघल गईं। उस डाकू ने उनके चरणों में अपना सिर रख दिया और अपने जीवन को पूर्ण रूप से उनके प्रति समर्पित कर दिया।
श्री श्री आनन्दमूर्ति जी ने कालीचरण के इस समर्पण को स्वीकार किया और उसे एक नया जीवन दिया। इस घटना के बाद, कालीचरण बंदोपाध्याय ने अपराध का रास्ता हमेशा के लिए छोड़ दिया। वह श्री श्री आनन्दमूर्ति जी के सान्निध्य में रहकर एक आदर्श गृहस्थ बन गया और समाज के लिए एक प्रेरणादायक उदाहरण प्रस्तुत किया। बाद में वह कालिचरण देव के नाम से जाने गए और उनकी आध्यात्मिक यात्रा यहीं समाप्त नहीं हुई। वह आगे चलकर एक महान आध्यात्मिक आचार्य के रूप में उभरे और आचार्य कालिकानंद अवधूत के नाम से विख्यात हुए। उन्होंने हजारों लोगों के जीवन में नवजीवन का संचार किया, ठीक वैसे ही जैसे श्रावणी पूर्णिमा के दिन उनके जीवन में हुआ था।
यह कहानी हमें सिखाती है कि श्रावणी पूर्णिमा केवल एक तिथि नहीं है, बल्कि एक अवसर है—अपने भीतर के अहंकार को समाप्त करके सद्गुरु के प्रति पूर्ण समर्पण का अवसर। यह दिन हमें याद दिलाता है कि जब हम सच्चे मन से समर्पण करते हैं, तो हमारे जीवन की सारी नकारात्मकताएँ दूर हो जाती हैं और एक नए, सार्थक और आध्यात्मिक जीवन का आरंभ होता है। यह नवजीवन का आधार है, जहाँ गुरु का प्रकाश शिष्य के जीवन को अंधकार से निकाल कर ज्ञान के मार्ग पर ले जाता है।
श्रावणी पूर्णिमा का पावन पर्व, जो वर्षा ऋतु के सौंदर्य को अपने चरम पर पहुँचा देता है, प्राचीन गुरुकुलों में एक विशेष महत्व रखता था। यह केवल एक धार्मिक तिथि नहीं थी, बल्कि शिक्षा और शिष्यत्व के गहन संबंध को नवीनीकृत करने का एक महत्वपूर्ण दिन था। इस दिन आचार्य अपने शिष्यों के साथ एक नए सत्र का आरंभ करते थे। वे दीक्षा के साथ अपने शिष्य के हाथ में ज्ञान की मशाल सौंपते थे, यह प्रतीकात्मक रूप से दर्शाते हुए कि अब शिष्य का जीवन और उसका भविष्य पूरी तरह से आचार्य के मार्गदर्शन में है। आचार्य केवल पुस्तकीय ज्ञान ही नहीं देते थे, बल्कि वे शिष्य के चरित्र, नैतिकता और जीवन मूल्यों को भी गढ़ने का संकल्प लेते थे। गुरुकुल की शांत कुटियाओं से लेकर आश्रम के हरे-भरे प्रांगण तक, हर जगह एक नई ऊर्जा का संचार होता था। शिष्यों के मन में ज्ञान प्राप्त करने की उत्कंठा और आचार्यों के हृदय में अपने शिष्यों को सही मार्ग दिखाने का दृढ़ निश्चय, ये सब मिलकर एक ऐसी परंपरा को जन्म देते थे जो आज भी भारतीय संस्कृति की अमूल्य धरोहर है। यह दिन गुरु-शिष्य परंपरा की गरिमा और उसके महत्व को पुनः स्थापित करने का एक अनुपम अवसर था।

The Guru-disciple tradition has had a deep significance on the land of India for centuries. In this tradition, there is a day that is considered a symbol of new life and spiritual awakening—Shravani Purnima, which is also celebrated as Rakshabandhan. This day is not only a witness to the love of brother and sister, but also to the unbreakable bond between the Guru and the disciple. On this day, the disciple surrenders his all to his Guru, and the Guru takes the burden of the physical, mental and spiritual progress of the disciple's life on his shoulders. This surrender is not just of words, but is the merging of one consciousness into another consciousness.
The disciple's surrender is like sowing a seed, and the Guru waters that seed with the water of knowledge and love and makes it a huge banyan tree. When the disciple is completely surrendered, then his 'I' feeling ends and he starts a new life under the guidance of the Guru. This new life is free from fear, ego and ignorance. The Guru recognizes the infinite potential within his disciple and guides him in the direction where he can achieve his perfection.
A wonderful example of this sacred tradition is found on the day of Shravan Purnima in 1939. At that time, a notorious bandit named Kalicharan Bandopadhyay was spreading fear among the people with his criminal activities. One night, he came to Kashi Mitra Ghat in Calcutta with the intention of robbing an ordinary looking elite young man. That young man was none other than Sri Sri Anandmurti Ji. The bandit Kalicharan tried to rob him, but as soon as he came in front of Sri Sri Anandmurti Ji, he bowed down before the divine energy emanating from his face and his calm personality. The layers of cruelty that had accumulated in his heart for years melted in a moment. The bandit placed his head at his feet and dedicated his life completely to him.
Sri Sri Anandmurti accepted Kalicharan’s devotion and gave him a new life. After this incident, Kalicharan Bandopadhyaya left the path of crime forever. He became an ideal householder under the guidance of Sri Sri Anandmurti and set an inspiring example for the society. Later he came to be known as Kalicharan Dev and his spiritual journey did not end here. He later emerged as a great spiritual master and became famous as Acharya Kalikananda Avdhoot. He brought new life to thousands of people, just like it happened in his life on the day of Shravani Purnima.
This story teaches us that Shravani Purnima is not just a date but an opportunity—an opportunity to destroy the ego within and surrender completely to Sadguru. This day reminds us that when we surrender with a true heart, all the negativity in our lives is removed and a new, meaningful and spiritual life begins. This is the basis of new life, where the light of the Guru takes the disciple's life out of darkness and leads him to the path of knowledge.
The holy festival of Shravan Purnima, which brings the beauty of the rainy season to its peak, had a special significance in the ancient Gurukuls. It was not just a religious date but an important day to renew the deep relationship of education and discipleship. On this day, the Acharya would start a new session with his disciples. He would hand over the torch of knowledge to his disciple with initiation, symbolically indicating that now the disciple's life and his future are completely under the guidance of the Acharya. The Acharya did not only impart bookish knowledge, but he also pledged to mold the disciple's character, morality and life values. From the quiet huts of the Gurukul to the lush green courtyard of the ashram, a new energy would flow everywhere. The eagerness of disciples to acquire knowledge and the firm determination of the teachers to show the right path to their disciples, all these together gave birth to a tradition which is still a priceless heritage of Indian culture. This day was a unique opportunity to re-establish the dignity and importance of the Guru-disciple tradition.
